There are some stories in the Bible that make you wonder if all those great Biblical heroes were really all that great. Truth be told, many of the principal characters were rather weak. Do you know why Abimelech gave Abraham a thousand pieces of silver? You will be quite surprised.
The event took place right after God had destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah with fire and brimstone. Of course, you know that only Lot and his two daughters escaped because his wife was turned into a pillar of salt for looking back. After Abraham saw the smoke rising from the burning cities, he decided to venture south, stopping at Gerar. At this time, Abraham only had a son Ishmael who was born by Hagar, his wife Sarah's maid, though God had promised him that Sarah would give birth to Isaac, with whom God would establish an everlasting covenant. Now, Abraham was 100 years old and Sarah was 90 years old.
In a foreign land, Abraham referred to Sarah as his sister when probed. Though she was advanced in years, she was still a very beautiful woman so the king of Gerar took her to his palace immediately. In fact, this was the second time that Abraham had denied he was Sarah's husband, fearing trouble. Then, God appeared to Abimelech in a dream and told him that Sarah was the wife of another man. Abimelech retorted by saying that even Sarah referred to Abraham as her brother and his conscience was clear in the matter. However, God told Abimelech to return Sarah unto Abraham for she was the wife of a prophet and if he didn't do so, he would surely die.
The very next morning, an angry Abimelech reprimanded Abraham for lying about Sarah. In reply, Abraham said that he was afraid he would be killed if he admitted he was her husband, and that he didn't really lie because Sarah was his half-sister. Then, Abimelech provided sheep, oxen, and servants, returning Sarah to Abraham, saying to her, "Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand pieces of silver..." (Gen 20:16). After Abraham prayed for Abimelech, he and his house became fertile again for God had made them impotent to protect Sarah.
For telling a half-lie, Abraham received a thousand pieces of silver plus other goodies. You will be half as fortunate to find a silver buyer who pays top rates for silver. Don't think twice. Get your instant cash for silver now!
